Dr. Lorenzo Bertolli is the B&A PR Executive Chairman. He has enormous corporate
management experience having been the founder of East Africa’s first solvent
extraction plant for edible oil and pioneered a number of products including maizebased
breakfast cereals and snacks.
A graduate of Galileo Galilei Institute, Florence, Italy where he acquired a Degree in “Ragioneria” (Accountancy), Dr. Bertolli also a distinguished administrator holding
Business Administration Ph.D from the Florence University, Florence, Italy.
His work experience in Africa spans from being the Group Business Development
Director for Unga Group, East Africa’s leading milling and food manufacturing group.
Included in this portfolio were experiences in restructuring and re-organization at the
level of holding and operating companies, in maize and wheat milling, vegetable oil,
animal feeds and starch from cassava.
In 1973, he had experience of feasibility assessment and project development of
agri-business in the region, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Ethiopia,
Somalia and Mozambique. This experience has since 1993 extended to privatization
studies.
He served the CEO of Del Monte Kenya Ltd a large agro-industrial operation
including a plantation and a cannery dealing with tropical fruit products from 2002
to 2004. as the CEO and Member of the Board of Directors at the company, he reestablished
industrial peace and a reputable human, environmental and social status
of the company. He also initiated successful cost saving projects through restructures
and outsourcings and established regional sales and marketing organization to cover
the East & Central African markets. These efforts were coupled with development of
a range of new branded food consumers’ products, suitable for the local and regional
markets.
It was while at Del Monte that Dr. Bertolli in-conjunction with UNDP initiated a
project to produce fruit juice in under-developed rural areas with appropriate village
level equipment, from previously un-utilized fruit, to supply local food industries.
The first pilot plant, for mango juice, was to be established in 2005 in the Tana River
basin.
From 2005 to 2007 he became the Group Development Director and Country
Manager of KK Security Group and has since rose through the ranks to become
the Deputy Managing Director. The KK Security Group carries its operations seven
countries in East and Central Africa.
